Boring....

Getting There

Yesterday Rene got a break from intravenous machines to receive antibiotics, platelets, blood, or fluids. Her platelet count was 28, which were up from 17 from the previous day. This means her body is beginning to respond to the treatments and produce blood. We noticed that her finger tips were pink not white…blood is getting around. Additionally, the bruises on her legs are also clearing up.

She Is Annoyed

Rene is still receiving her leukine shots and she is getting them in the stomach lately. This is a very brave nurse in my opinion! She is still dealing with canker sores in her mouth from the chemo so it is a liquid diet of soups and Boost for the moment and once her immune system is stabilized, she should be able to eat solid foods again.

It seems her nurse stated that “Blacks don’t get canker sores” and she let me have it for being protected from this! Being my usual caring and understanding self about her plight, I responded with, “deal with it!”. After a bit of research, I am happy to report that this is a “wife’s tale” and proper health is why it does not happen regardless of race!

Hair And Sleep

It seems that Rene will not be cutting her hair just yet. Her hairdresser stated she should wait until large patches are falling out instead of the single strains. Additionally since she is anemic and if she was nicked, we could not stop any bleeding. She has not played Scrabble yet because she felt the urge to sleep, and this is important so I told her to sleep and she did! I know she was tired if she did not fight with me about it!

Hospital Time

Her oncologist anticipates that she will remain in the hospital over the weekend and then she can come home. Let us see what happens, I sure she will begin her bantering for time off with good behavior! Of course, the same nursing assistant that she thinks is a "hotty" is working, she may not fight it and just enjoy the eye candy instead!
